Doha: The Ministry of Municipality will reopen eight beaches after renovation on November 1 to welcome fans of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, said an official.

The renovated beaches include Sealine Public Beach, Al Wakra Public Beach, Al Wakra Family Beach, Simaisma Family Beach, Al Ferkiah Beach, Safa Al Tawq Beach, Al Ghariya Beach and Al Kharaij Beach.

“We had marked 18 beaches for renovation to provide necessary services for visitors. In phase one, eight of them will be reopened on November 1 ahead of mega sporting event,” said Director of Projects and Development Department at the Ministry of Municipality Eng Suleiman Al Abdullah.

Speaking in Al Majlis programme of Alkass TV Channel on Friday, he said under renovation project, the beaches are provided walkways, shades of different designs, permanent toilets, kiosks, barbeque areas, play areas for children, volleyball and football grounds.

“Dedicated walkways for people with special needs are also built in some beaches to give them access to the sea. Lighting system of all beaches will be powered by solar energy,” said Al Abdullah. He said that a pilot project for providing lifeguard service at beaches will be initiated with Sealine and Al Ghariya beaches from November 1, said Al Abdullah.

Speaking at the same programme, Director of Public Parks Department Eng Muhammad Ali Al Khouri said that Umm Al Seneem Park with the largest air-conditioned walkways in the world will open by the beginning of next month for fans of the World Cup in a bid to encourage people for exercise.

He said that the park with the walkway, similar to that at Al Gharrafa Park, is being developed by the Public Parks Department (Ashghal). He said that public parks in Qatar increased to 136 in 2022 from 76 in 2015, thanks to government efforts to increase the green areas in the country.

“Public Parks Department in coordination with Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) made special focus on some parks such as Al Muntazah Park, 5/6 Park, Corniche Park and Al Bedda Park in providing more security and ensuring hygiene,” said Al Khouri. He said that most of the public parks in Qatar were provided with exercise equipment and walkways among other services, amid growing number of visitors during past 5 years.

“The private sector is also contributing to the Ministry in providing exercise equipment and trainers at public parks. At present two parks – Al Matar Park and Al Rayan Park are hosting exercise training sessions by experts from 4am to 6am daily. Fitness boxes are also available at the two parks,” said Al Khouri.
