New Port Project: Qatari firms win 53pc of total awarded contracts

DOHA: Qatar’s New Port Project, which costs QR27bn, has awarded contracts worth a total of QR15.4bn so far. Of this, local companies won contracts worth QR8.16bn or 53 percent of the total awarded project works.
The steering committee of the New Port discussed the progress of the project and reviewed the final draft of the plan for the new project, Arabic business portal Mubasher reported.
The new port is expected to be completed by 2020. In addition, the Project is considered one of the largest infrastructure projects, which covers a total land space of 26km.
The first phase is expected to be completed in 2016, with a capacity of receiving two million containers. Meanwhile, after the two remaining phases are finished, the Port’s capacity will rise to six million containers.
