The financial performance of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for the third quarter of 2017 witnessed a significant improvement, especially with respect to collection and revenue increase. Kahramaa’s quarterly review meeting saw an increase in institutional performance during the period.

On the technical performance of electricity transmission and distribution networks, technical performance indicators for the networks recorded high levels. The technical performance indicator for the number of minutes of electricity loss in electrical transmission networks showed a marked improvement in the third quarter with a record of 0.10 minutes.

The System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) performance indicator maintained the number of power outages at a rate of 0.09 times, as well as the The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) indicator of the average power cuth recorded 7.65 minutes in the third quarter. In terms of drinking water quality, the general index of water quality exceeded the WHO index. The water storage margin increased significantly by 14 percent as a result of the entry of the production of the Umm Al Houl power plant. The rate of infusion in the network decreased by 3.9 percent in the third quarter, and the response time for subscriber complaints also improved significantly.

In the third quarter of 2017, Kahramaa  inaugurated the new Hamad Al Kabir Street power station and parking lot, which consists of a 66/11 kV power station and 6 parking floors for 270 cars at a total cost of QR155m, as one of the solutions offered by Kahramaa in high density and high traffic density areas, and contributing to helping resolve the parking problem in the area. Meanwhile, the production of the Umm Al Houl power plant reached 60 million gallons per day.

This resulted in a 15 percent increase in water production capacity, a qualitative addition to the level of Qatar’s water security, which enhances Kahramaa’s ability to meet its commitments towards providing sustainable and high quality service.

The treated wastewater network has been connected to 6 central cooling stations as an alternative to potable water, which will contribute to provide about 4.7 million cubic meters of potable water at the value of nearly QR38m, bringing the total number of wastewater treatment plants at the end of 2017 to 13.

The total desalinated water production is expected to reach 56.88 million cubic meters by 2022, equivalent to QR452m.
On the other hand, The third quarter of 2017 witnessed a reduction of 12.6 million units of gas consumption (equivalent to QR130m) as a result of the adoption of the operational cost reduction program. The monitoring system for the transmission and distribution networks succeeded in achieving a saving of about QR45m.

Kahramaa President,  Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari (pictured), who presided over the meeting in the presence of directors and heads of departments, praised the achievements and the great progress in the projects achieved by the Corporation during the third quarter of 2017, especially under the current circumstances, through innovative strategies and mechanisms.
