DOHA: The General Directorate of Traffic is working on to link all the traffic radars (cameras) with Metrash2 app so as to upload all violations as soon as it takes place, Captain Shabib Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Head of Radars Section at the Traffic Department, said.

He said in ‘Hayatna’ show on Qatar TV that the huge project involves setting up a special control room for traffic management and linking all traffic radars to the fibre-optic network and Metrash 2 App, which will allow the motorist to view the image of the violation immediately after it is committed. This will also allow the motorist to file a grievance in case of an objection about the violation through the App.

He explained that the radars that are installed in Qatar can withstand temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius, which is commensurate with the nature of the climate in the country.

He pointed out that in the installation of radars is done considering several aspects including the number of lanes on the road. Roads that have 7 lanes like "Al Majd Road" will need more sophisticated and expensive radars to detect violation than a 3-lane road, as it is much wider.

Al Nuaimi pointed out that the General Directorate of Traffic is working continuously to install more cameras/radars around the country, especially on the highways, which are newly opened, in addition to such internal roads that require monitoring devices.

He confirmed that about 80 per cent of Qatar is covered by traffic radars.
