Al Wakra Hospital records first birth

DOHA: Al Wakra Hospital recorded its first birth hours after the facility was officially opened by the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani last Wednesday.

The baby boy, named Mohammed, was born in the hospital’s state-of-the-art maternity unit at 12.53am on December 13. The hospital was opened by the Emir on December 12. 

Johannes Kedzierski, Chief Executive Officer of Al Wakra Hospital, said: “We are extremely pleased to have had the hospital’s first birth so soon after our official opening and wish baby Mohammed and his parents well,” he said.

“I am pleased to say that Al Wakra Hospital is now fully operational and open to patients of all ages. Like all large-scale new hospitals we will be fine tuning our processes in all departments as we move forwards in meeting the healthcare needs of this growing community,” he added.

Al Wakra Hospital is a general hospital with a flexible capacity of 210 to 260 beds. In addition, there are 96 critical care and observation beds. 

“This is an important facility for the local communities of Al Wakra, Doha International Airport and the southern region and we expect our patient numbers to grow very quickly. The opening of the hospital means many, people will no longer have to travel to Doha for life changing investigation and treatment,” Kedzierski said.
