In celebration of Qatar National Day, Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Oxy Qatar) and Souq Waqif Arts Center in partnership with Agency222 are hosting the ‘Al-Moases’ exhibition by the renowned calligrapher, Sabah Arbili.

Al Moases will consist of 30 individual paintings and 15 sculptures, inspired by the poetry of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, the founder of Qatar.  The exhibition will take place at Souq Waqif Arts Center from December 17 to 31 between 9am and 10pm.

Stephen A Kelly, President and General Manager of Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Oxy Qatar) said: “Oxy is proud to celebrate National Day 2012 through the presentation of Al Moases. In addition to promoting local arts and culture – which is a key objective of Oxy’s Qatar’s Social Responsibility Program – Al Moases provides an exclusive opportunity to honor the poems of Qatar’s founder and showcase them as unique pieces of art. We are very pleased that Souq Waqif Arts Center and Agency 222 have partnered with Oxy to make Al Moases possible, and we hope the Qatari community will enjoy this beautiful tribute to their rich history and culture.”

In addition to the exhibition, the event will feature workshops for children, accompanied by the artist. The workshops, to be conducted December 17-18 from 6 to 7:30pm, will introduce children to the basics of painting and calligraphy.

Rowdha Al Mansoori, Manager of the Souq Waqif Arts Center commented on the exhibition: “We are very proud to partner with Oxy Qatar to present this unique exhibition to the Qatari community. This exhibition will introduce visitors to the wonderful world of poetry and calligraphy, two of the most renowned Arabic arts, and we find this a great representation of the rich culture of Qatar”.

Arbilli based his work on the poetry of Qatar’s founder because of its historical significance and importance with regard to Qatar National Day, as well as its unique ability as a universal language to create dialogue for all. The art work is done in a contemporary style of calligraphy specifically designed for this project, emphasizing the rich wealth of culture in Qatar.

Hussein Fakhri, CEO, Agency 222 concluded: “As a leading creative and communication agency in Qatar, part of our mission is to support the development of creativity in the country. I would like to thank Oxy for the opportunity to be part of this event and to show our support of arts and culture in Qatar.”
