: Over 35,000 people are expected to visit Katara for the annual Run The World Festival (RTWF) which starts on Thursday.
The event is a regional youth sports festival to encourage active and healthy lifestyles through sports and promote cultural interaction and community outreach. It will take place from 2pm to 10pm until Saturday at Katara Beach.
“This is the third year Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum (QOSM) is working with The Youth Company to organise the festival. This is our long-term commitment to involve the youth in Qatar in sports, culture and civic engagement and invite everyone to participate in this programme,” Dr Christian Wacker, Director of QOSM, told a press conference at Youth Hub Qatar yesterday. The opening day will feature activities to mark Qatar National Day, followed by two days of exciting programmes. Visitors will witness cultural and musical performances in the Youth Got Talent Competition, watch extreme sports shows such as Parkour and skateboarding, view colourful street culture with graffiti, dance and music in the RTW Street space and participate in sports tournaments in RTW Sports space. They can also explore RTWF Village, a cultural marketplace offering traditional food, crafts, services and cultural exhibits from organisations, international and local brands, associations and youth groups.
The festival will also host a charity campaign and a marathon in partnership with Qatar Charity for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The campaign will accept in-kind donations and funds and aims to raise more than QR500,000. The festival is organised in partnership with QOSM and sponsored by Sports Corner, Doha Insurance, Queen Medical, and Nasser Bin Khaled.
“We take great pride and pleasure in collaborating with these significant corporate bodies of Qatar in carrying out RTWF, which is without doubt our biggest initiative of the year,” said Abdulrahman Sajid, Deputy CEO, The Youth Company International. The Peninsula
