NEW YORK: The State of Kuwait has delivered Wednesday evening a contribution of $7 million to support activities of specialized UN bodies and agencies which are providing relief and assistance to Syrian refugees displaced within their home country and beyond its borders.

According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the UN Mansour Ayyad Sh. Al-Otaibi said that the contribution was $2 million for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), $1 million for the UN Development Programme (UNDP), $2 million for the World Food Programme (WFP), and another $ 2 million for the UN High-Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The $7 million just delivered is part of the $10 million destined for UN bodies.

The donation is delivered just weeks before Kuwait hosts an international Syria donors conference on January 30 to amass more financial, logistic, and moral support for this cause.

The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah had announced in the 33rd GCC Summit, which was held in Manama last December, that his country would host this conference. (QNA)
