QC has provided a water tanker for Al Aria Municipality for the needy in several villages.

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) is drilling four wells in Mauritania at a cost of QR1m  to provide drinking water for around 20,000 people in several states.
It has also completed projects to help divorcees and widows earn a steady income.
The projects included economic empowerment in the form of income-generating projects to provide families with a sustainable income, and the provision of potable water for the benefit of thousands.
“The projects are part of QC’s interest in priority areas, specially the poor and remote parts, and we focus on projects related to economic empowerment for families, particularly widows and divorcees to help earn a steady income,” said Idris Almsahl, Director, QC’s Office, Mauritania.
QC funded a project for the benefit of sewing and arts graduates and provided 15 sewing machines during the graduation ceremony held in the presence of Saadna Ould Hamadi, Mayor, El Ouyoun City, and Aisha bint Sheikh, Coordinator of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Women, Childhood and Family, for Western Basin state.
The sewing machines aim to help the graduates launch their businesses and have a steady source of income to help support their families.
Hamadi praised QC’s role in establishing small projects that are economically supportive of the neediest groups and match their capabilities and skills.
Bint Sheikh thanked QC for support for women, particularly divorcees and widows, from needy families.
Nana bint Al Mokhtar, a widow, expressed delight over receiving a sewing machine and said, “I will benefit from it greatly by sewing quilts and jumpers and help me use my income for my children.”
QC has funded many sewing initiatives in coordination with specialised local associations to train women in the art of sewing.
Mohsen Without Borders, Organization of Society Awareness and Goodness for Social Solidarity are among the associations that support women who want to learn sewing and provide unemployed female heads of household with free training to help them secure an income to support their families.
QC also established a project to provide safe drinking water for 2,000 people in the municipality of Al Aria in the state of Atararzh. It also provided Al Aria Municipality with a 20-tonne water tanker enough for 25 days, helping reduce the suffering of residents  who faced difficulty in accessing safe drinking water.
The tanker provides the residents with water twice a day and periodically passes through over 20 villages under the civic jurisdiction.
Bemb Ould Salek, Mayor,  Al Aria, said the municipality had experienced difficulty in solving this urgent problem and QC’s timely intervention has ended the population’s suffering.
