Doha: Ooredoo announced yesterday that it had deployed its 5G network in Al Shahaniya, in line with its aim of allowing all its customers to enjoy the Supernet across the region and further afield.

The deployment of the 5G network means as soon as 5G-enabled devices are commercially available, customers in the area will be able to access the super-fast network speeds and superior efficiency and reliability offered by the futuristic technology.

This latest 5G development and the resulting super-fast internet speeds proved useful today when the Shahaniya camel race track played host to French football team Paris Saint Germain, who visited Doha as part of their annual winter tour.  Accompanied by senior executives from Ooredoo, the team was introduced to the traditional Qatari sport of camel racing, with players taking part in two races alongside Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed Al Sayed. PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel, won the first race, with the Brazilian superstar Neymar won the second, and each collected a cheque for $25,000 to be used for the development of Community and Social Responsibility Programmes of Paris Saint-Germain Foundation.

Ooredoo was the first to launch a live, commercially available 5G network, and has made incredible progress towards ensuring all elements will be ready to go as soon as the first devices are available.

A large number of network towers have already been installed across Doha.

Waleed Al Sayed, Ooredoo CEO said: “2018 was a phenomenal year for us at Ooredoo in our journey towards 5G, and we’re delighted to see 2019 shaping up the same way. Ensuring areas are comprehensively covered by our 5G network is a key step towards making sure our customers will be the first in the world to benefit from the life-changing possibilities 5G will bring, and we’re proud to say we are well on track with our coverage progress.

The camel racing event today with Paris Saint Germain was an excellent example of how 5G is already changing lives, offering super-fast internet speeds, and we look forward to seeing what other differences it can make soon.”
