Vienna: Five people were killed on Saturday after two avalanches struck western Austria's Salzburg region, local media reported.
The first avalanche occurred shortly after noon at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the Bad Hofgastein area. One person was buried and killed in open alpine terrain, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported.
In the second incident, a total of seven people were swept away in the Grossarl Valley. Four of them were found dead, while the other three survived, according to the report.
