DOHA: The Syrian National Coalition has reinstated Nizar Al Haraki as “ambassador” to Qatar after announcing his dismissal earlier this month.
Al Haraki was ousted as “envoy” by the head of the National Coalition, Khalid Khoja, after the opposition-run embassy in Doha began renewing expired passports of Syrian expatriates here.
Days after the renewal process began the Coalition ordered its stoppage saying the renewal was illegal and could land passport holders in jail if they travelled overseas.
Al Haraki, after his dismissal, had dubbed it as personal vendetta being sought by Khoja, and travelled to Turkey where he, Khoja and the Coalition are based.
Al Haraki is, however, back as the Coalition’s man and “envoy” here, reports Al Sharq. “He returned last Sunday after being reinstated in his job,” the daily said. He and the Coalition, according to the daily, have agreed to conduct “extensive studies” on the issue of renewing expired passports of Syrians in Qatar and other countries where the Coalition has “embassies”.
