New Delhi: Three people, including a newly-married woman, committed suicide by hanging themselves in separate incidents here, police said yesterday. The body of Ramesh, 24, was found hanging in his house in west Delhi’s Mangolpuri, police said. “He had a heated argument with his family members Friday night and went to his room and hanged himself,” said a police officer. “No suicide note was recovered. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly drunk,” said the officer. In another incident, Minto, 22, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in east Delhi’s Sonia Vihar. No suicide note was found but inquiries suggested he was depressed. On Wednesday, Nilofer, 25, who recently married Shamshad, 30, a teacher in a private engineering institute, hanged herself in her house in west Delhi’s Mundka, police said. She hailed from Bihar and shifted to Delhi March 11, police said, adding that the victim did not leave behind any suicide note. The victim’s husband was arrested for dowry harassment, police said.

Woman stabbed by jilted lover

New Delhi: A 23-year-old woman was attacked here with a knife by her jilted lover, police said yesterday. The accused is on the run. Puja, who was studying in Class 12 through distance education, was attacked with a knife by her lover Sandeep, 26, in east Delhi’s GTB Enclave area around 8.50pm on Friday, police said. “The victim received injury on face. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused who is still on the run,” said a police officer. The reason behind the incident is yet be ascertained, police said. Initial investigation revealed that both the victim and the accused had broken up after an affair, police said.

Ex-Odisha police chief questioned

Bhubaneswar: The Kerala Police yesterday questioned former Odisha police chief Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, a day after gathering evidence in Odisha to prove that a man arrested by them was his parole-jumper son Bitti, convicted for rape. Bitti jumped parole in 2006 after his conviction for raping a German woman in Rajasthan and was arrested in Kerala on March 8 after the State Bank of Travancore, where he was working as a probationary officer, raised doubts about his identity. The Kerala Police team questioned the former Odisha police chief at Cuttack.
