Srinagar: A top guerrilla of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) responsible for the killing of a police officer and other terror attacks has been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Badgam district, an defence spokesman said yesterday. “A joint team of the army and the state police apprehended a top LeT terrorist from Badipora area of Badgam district,” said the spokesman. “Based on a specific intelligence input regarding presence of a LeT terrorist in village Badipora of tehsil Chadoora of Badgam, a joint operation was launched by the army and the state police at approximately 6.30pm on Saturday. “During the operation, the joint team successfully apprehended a top LeT terrorist, who was later identified as Abdul Lateef Rather, a resident of village Badipora. An AK-47, two magazines and around 60 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the apprehended terrorist.
MP booked for abusing actress
Amravati: Police have registered a complaint against Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP Anandrao Adsul and two others for abusing and threatening NCP candidate and actress Navneet Kaur-Rana, an official said here yesterday. “We have lodged offences pertaining to threats, using foul language, abuse in the name of caste and character,” said an official of Gadge Nagar police station. When contacted, the 67-year-old Adsul denied the charges levelled by Kaur-Rana. “Kaur-Rana, 27, a well-known southern film actress and model, said she was harassed by Adsul and his supporters since the past two months after it became evident that she would be contesting against him in the Lok Sabha elections on a Nationalist Congress Party ticket. Kaur-Rana is the wife of Ravi Rana, Independent legislator from Badnera town (Amravati), said.
PM works too much
New Delhi: Manmohan Singh, India’s 14th prime minister and the first technocrat to rule the country, is winding up his term but is involved in “too much work” even as a lame-duck prime minister, officials closely working with him said. “His work has become too much. It is an 11-hour day for him,” a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. “The prime minister begins his day at 9.30am, has official meetings till lunch and then again works from 4pm to 7.30pm,” the official said.
