DOHA: The country received intermittent rains yesterday marking the transition from winter to summer.
The Meteorology Department has forecast more rains today accompanied by strong winds.
The city woke up to strong winds and an overcast sky yesterday. The rains started at around 2pm in some areas and continued until late evening with intervals.
The intermittent showers flooded many low-lying areas and slowed down traffic as it started during peak hours when people were returning home from offices.
This was the second rain the country experienced since the beginning of this winter. Many citizens and expatriates ventured out to experience the rare showers, while social networking sites were abuzz with comments and pictures.
The rains came as a respite, after the dust winds the country has been experiencing for several days. Many had a free car wash, while many others had a hard time driving on rain-soaked roads and water-logged streets.
The Meteorology Department has forecast another cloudy day with chances of scattered rain in some places. Strong winds are also expected in some areas.
The rains are not likely to cause a drop in temperature, which could range between 20- 28 degrees Celsius in most areas of the country.
Wakra , Messaid and Abu Samra are expected to see a higher temperature while Al Wakra and Dukhan would be less warm.
The weathermen had earlier forecast unstable weather conditions during this week, with a rise in temperature and chances of scattered rains.
The strong winds are expected to continue until Thursday.
The unstable weather has been attributed to an extension of low pressure in the upper air over the eastern Mediterranean area. The turbulence could prevail until April 22.The Peninsula
