DOHA: Katara is organising the fourth Senyar traditional pearl diving and fishing competition from April 22 to 25.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti expressed his happiness on the preparations being made for the festival.
“It is part of Katara’s tradition to support cultural and traditional events related to Qatari society’s past. Senyar is an important event which links the Qataris with their marine heritage which has a strong link with the Qatari environment,” said Dr Al Sulaiti.
This year the competition will include three categories namely Al Laffah (diving and fishing), Al Haddak (fishing) and Al Kus (diving).
The festival organisers announced yesterday they will continue to receive applications for registration until April 1. Those who wish to register may contact Katara Beach Administration via 44081011 or 33913104 or at Katara’s website www.katara.net The organising committee has also called on all participants to come to Katara Beach on April 19 for medical and technical checkup.
