Sanya, Hainan: China is keen to join hands with Asia and the rest of the world to continue to seek for new ways to innovate and share the gains of development, as the country celebrates its 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, said Huang Kunming, Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Media Leaders Summit for Asia here.
Themed “A New Era of Media Cooperation in Asia - Interconnectivity and Innovative Development,” the opening ceremony was attended by more than 300 people, including over 140 leaders of major media outlets from 40 Asian countries, as well as scholars on culture and other representatives.
In his speech, Huang Kunming hailed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal of building a community with a shared future for Asia and humanity. He called on promoting the open and innovative spirit and facilitating the prosperity and development of Asia.
“An open and innovative Asia, and a prosperous and developing world provide a grand stage for media from all countries to advance together and showcase themselves,” he said. He urged Asian media to promote the innovative spirit, build consensus on cooperation, push for dialogues between nations, and spread the voice of Asia.
China’s reform and growth have benefited from and contributed to the development of Asia, and China will pursue innovation and share achievements along the road, Huang said. He said President Xi Jinping’s thoughts and visions, such as building a community with a shared future for mankind, offer Chinese wisdom and a Chinese approach to world peace and prosperity in Asia.
Huang also said that an open, innovative and prosperous world provides valuable opportunities for media organisations from different countries and regions to work together. He said media outlets in Asia should cooperate with each other and carry forward innovation to promote the prosperity of Asia and the world. The Summit also held four parallel sub-forums, covering topics such as media exchanges and cooperation, the Belt and Road Initiative, China’s reform and opening up and cultural exchanges throughout Asia.
