Islamabad: Ali Haider Gilani, son of Pakistan’s Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, was rescued in an operation in Akora Khattak of Nowshera in Pakistan yesterday.
Security forces launched the operation in the early hours. After an exchange of fire between the abductors and forces, officers recovered Ali Haider, according to Dunya News.
One kidnapper was killed and another injured. Ali was kidnapped by gunmen during an election rally in Multan on May 10.
Taliban leader dies in shootout
Kabul: A senior Taliban leader was killed during a military operation by Afghan and coalition forces in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan.
Nato-led International Security Assistance Force said (ISAF) said the forces killed Shah Gul in Chimtal district, Balkh province, according to Khaama Press.
ISAF said Afghan and coalition security forces also arrested a senior Taliban leader during an operation in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province. He planned, coordinated and executed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Nahr-e Saraj district.
He also facilitated the movement of weapons in the local area and served as an intelligence operative responsible for relaying operational information to insurgent leadership, an ISAF statement added.
Nato driver shot dead
PESHAWAR: Gunmen yesterday killed the driver of a Nato supply truck passing through northwest Pakistan near the Afghan border, local officials said.
The shooting took place in the Jamrud area of Khyber, one of seven districts that make up Pakistan’s semi-autonomous tribal belt where Taliban and Islamist militants are active.
“Two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a Nato truck and killed its driver,” local government official Asmatullah Wazir said.
Local intelligence and health officials confirmed the killing, for which there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
