DOHA: More than 70 schoolchildren featured in the one-day National and Club Challenge Gymnastics Championships, staged by Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) concluded successfully at Khwala Gymnastics Indoor Hall on Saturday.
According to Mrs Abeer Ali Abdullah Albuainain, the Assistant Secretary General, QGF, the event proved to be a huge hit with schoolchildren who regaled fans with remarkable performances.
“We got to see new faces who could be groomed for future national or international events,” Mrs Abeer said.
The events - held in separate boys and girls classes along with team competitions.

“We are continuously aiming to improve the standards of play by giving the kids the chance to compete and learn from the experts. We saw a huge crowd turnout at our latest event and we are happy that the sport is catching on with young kids,” Mrs Abeer said.
“There was a positive connection between kids and their parents at the event. Parents were present to see their children compete and win medals. Clearly it was a great sight to see such positive impact all round,” Mrs Abeer said.
“I take this opportunity to thank the organising committee that put out a great show for schoolchildren to enjoy and compete. It was very pleasing to see the enthusiasm from the kids and their families,” she said.
“We will continue to stage such events on a regular basis,” she said.

Two years ago, it was confirmed that Doha will stage host the 48th edition of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in 2018.
Having impressed members of the FIG Executive Committee with a comprehensive bid offer, the prestigious win will see Qatar welcome the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships for the first time in the nation’s history.
The winning bid was based upon an ‘all in one’ concept with Doha ready to host the championships at renowned and state of the art Aspire Zone. Competitors, officials and spectators can look forward to enjoying the convenience and comfort of world-class facilities throughout the competition arena, accommodation and expert medical services for elite athletes courtesy of Aspetar.
Established in 2000 the Qatar Gymnastics Federation has quickly made steady progress towards its development goals for the sport. Already a successful host of seven editions of the FIG World Challenge Cup, Qatar has now captured the very highest level of the sport.
The 48th edition of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship is expected to be staged within the Aspire Zone in Doha from October 18 to 27, 2018.
