Wall Street closes mixed as oil prices retreat

NEW YORK: Wall Street closed mixed Tuesday as oil prices surrendered some of their gains. 

The Dow lost two points to finish flat at 20,979 and the S&P fell less than two points to 2,400. 

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, gained 20 points to close at 6,169 -- a new record high for the second day in a row. 

At the final bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was down 0.5 percent to $48.62, while international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $51.62 -- a 0.4 percent loss. 

Microsoft and Yahoo saw their stocks gain 2 percent.
