DOHA: A teenaged Qatari rider is reported to have died in a motorcycle crash after midnight on Monday.

The 17-year-old was among two youngsters riding a motorcycle when it met with an accident near the traffic lights close to Abu Hamour petrol station.

Details of how the accident occurred are not known, but police patrol vans were stationed at the traffic lights when it

took place.

There were differing versions of what happened. Some eyewitnesses claimed the motorcycle jumped the red light and hit a car, which was taking a left turn from the other side of the intersection.

Al Sharq said the rider lost control and hit the pavement.

The duo was rushed to hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries, while the other is in a serious condition.
