Al Kuwari stresses Qatar’s commitment to UN

Doha: The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage and President of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development XIII (UNCTAD) H E Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari has confirmed continued support of Qatar, under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the UN and its agencies as part of its obligations towards best effort to ensure the success of UNCTAD XIII and achieve the objectives adopted during a meeting in Doha last year.

Addressing the opening session of the 60th session of the Trade and Development Council yesterday in Geneva, Dr Al Kuwari said Qatar will continue comprehensive development process based on modernisation and cooperation with the international community to achieve a world of peace, prosperity and mutual respect.

He called on the new Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Mukhisa Kituyi, to dedicate his vision and spirit of leadership to implement recommendations made at UNCTAD XIII in Doha last year, calling for strengthening links between UNCTAD and its member states .

Dr Al Kuwari said Qatar pays special attention to UNCTAD not just because it hosted the 13 session but also for Qatar’s faith that this institution represents in the best way aspirations of developing countries for a brighter future, pointing out that he attended several sessions of UNCTAD and witnessed systematic implementation of Doha recommendations.

He stressed that countries have a unique opportunity over the next few years to work on radical change of the global development approach to secure a brighter future the humanity deserves.. QNA
