Doha: Qatar’s leading telecommunications operator yesterday announced the third event in its Beach Clean-up campaign, an ongoing initiative to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment.

The third Beach Clean-up event is scheduled for September 19 at Sealine Beach, to align with World Clean-up Day.

Ooredoo staff will attend the beach — following all current safety protocols — to clean up anything not part of the natural environment, but an added element of this third event will be a clean-up of the sea bed as well as the beach to ensure no rubbish is present in the water that could harm marine life.

In order to safely clean up the seabed, six scuba divers from Doha Divers Team will join the Ooredoo staff. Ooredoo will provide the necessary cleaning kits, visibility vests and snacks and beverages.
Ooredoo’s Beach Clean-up campaign, organised in collaboration with Friends of the Environment Center, is designed to encourage beachgoers to clean up after themselves and take responsibility for picking up any rubbish left behind.

With the social media hashtag #LeaveOnlySandcastles, it focuses on keeping Qatar’s beaches clean for both the preservation of the marine environment and for the benefit of those visiting, ensuring anyone paying a visit to one of the country’s many stunning beaches leaves only sandcastles when they depart.

Director PR at Ooredoo, Sabah Rabiah Al Kuwari, said: “We’re delighted to confirm our Beach Clean-up campaign is going from strength to strength, and proud to be hosting the third event in just a few weeks.

"This initiative stems from our commitment to promoting the protection of our environment, in keeping with both our corporate responsibility strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We’re rightly proud of the many participants who give up their time to support the initiative, despite the challenging weather conditions of late summer, and thank them yet again for all their hard work and effort.”
