DOHA: Australian sheep, the cheapest variety in the local market, ran out of stock at the slaughterhouses in the livestock market yesterday, leaving many visitors angry and disappointed.
An announcement by Widam that Australian sheep will be sold at QR350 per head led to a huge rush at the slaughterhouses yesterday and a subsequent shortage in supply, according to Al Sharq.
Many visitors expressed anger over the shortage, saying Widam failed to fulfil its promises to make enough quantity of Australian sheep available in the market.
The abattoirs witnessed chaotic scenes on the second day of Eid Al Adha and people blamed the authorities for the way the situation was handled.
Many people who were issued coupons had to wait for hours to have their share of the meat, said the daily. The situation is getting worse every year instead of showing any improvement, it added.
