Doha: A three-day regional meeting on cancer and priority research areas begins in Doha from Sunday. The Supreme Council of Health is organising it at Marriott Hotel.
Dr Ala’din Alwan, Director of World Health Organisation’s Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean region and International Agency for Research on Cancer, officials responsible for the fight against cancer at health ministries in the region, those responsible for cancer records and regional and international researchers and experts will attend.
The forum will examine the current status of cancer, outline future changes in cancer epidemiology in the region, review available information on contribution of risk factors and exposures, including environmental factors, to the incidence of cancer, and identify research priorities to fill gap in knowledge about causes of cancer.
The meeting will also discuss the current situation of cancer records and reporting and priorities in strengthening information systems, and identify appropriate methods for early detection of the most common types of cancer.
Qatar has launched a five-year National Cancer Strategy to provide high standard of care.
