Doha: Lekhwiya and Al Sadd shared the points with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Lekhwiya Stadium in the third round match of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday.
The hosts looked the better side in the early exchanges, and could have set down a early marker with a Mohammed Ismael over head kick on the 7th minute. Fortunately the shot just edged past the Al Sadd goal.
However against the run of play it was Al Sadd who took the lead on the 19th minute through Baghdad Bounjah. A well timed through ball from Sadd defender Kasola found Bounjah who calmly slotted the ball past Lacome to give his side the lead with his fourth goal of the QSL season.
The Red Knights immediately went on the front foot and promptly found an equalizer moments later. Smart midfield play from Nam Tae Hee found Mohammed Tresor on the right wing who whipped a ball across the face of the Sadd goal, Yusef El Arabi made a darting near post and stabbed the ball into the back of the net.
Lekhwiya made their dominance count and deservedly took a 2-1 lead going into the break. Nam Tae Hee delivered an inch perfect cross into the box which found Tunisian international Yusef Msakni who bravely notted the ball into the back of the net.
Lekhwiya looked totally dominant on ball with Nam Tad Hee pulling the strings in the center of the park. However Sadd found their way back into the contest in fortuitous circumstances.
On the 68th minute Al Sadd where given a penalty after Ibrahim and Yusef Msakni battled for a 50/50 ball. The referee pointed to the spot, much to the distress of the Lekhwiya players. Qatar international Hassan Haydoos promptly stepped up and slotted the ball into the net to give Al Sadd the most unlikeliest of equalizers.
Lekhwiya, where frustrated with the decision but put all their focus in finding a winner. They pushed back Al Sadd from the kick-off and grabbed their third of the night on the 74th minute.
South Korean international Nam Tae Hee scored his fourth goal of the season with a sublimely hit free kick which rebounded off the post and into the back of the net. Much to the joy of Lekhwiya head coach Djamel Belmadi.
However, Al Sadd had the final say in the game on the 83rd minute with the sixth and final goal of the tie. Substitute Hamad Ismael whipped in a low cross which sped past two Lekhwiya defenders, Baghdad Bounjah was on hand to tap in the ball into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season and give the Wolves the luckiest of points.
