ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Lahore police claimed yesterday to have arrested a hardened criminal, allegedly involved in a conspiracy to murder former president Pervez Musharaf, it was learnt on Sunday.
DSP Abdul Qayyum Gondal told the media that the suspect was also involved in dacoity-cum-murder cases. He said the police arrested the suspect, Waqar alias Noumi, on the basis of intelligence reports.
Police teams were formed to round up the criminal, he said, adding that finally Noumi was nabbed when he was preparing for committing the crime.
The police also recovered from his possession illegal weapons, cash and some mobile phones, he said.
The DSP claimed that the suspect confessed to have committed 31 dacoities and other heinous crimes during interrogation.
To a question, he said the suspect was also wanted in some dacoity-cum-murder cases and had been an inmate of Adyala prison for five years.
Parents deprive 10,000 children of polio vaccination
ISLAMABAD: Over 80 percent children under five years of age were administrated polio vaccine during the three-day campaign in Pakistan’s south-western provincial Quetta region and the coverage will be increased to 98pe, but parents of 9,958 refused, an official said yesterday.
Balochistan Health Director General Dr Naseer Baloch said at a press conference along with World Health Organisation (WHO) representative Anwar Bugti that health teams had covered the entire region and knocked at every door in Quetta and 10 other district during the campaign that ended on Thursday.
