DOHA: Qatar is set to boost its status as a major player in the international MICE industry by attending the EIBTM - the European specialised exhibition for the meetings and incentives industry.
The three-day event will open tomorrow at the Fira de Barcelona, with two venues, Montjuïc and Gran Via, which boasts the largest trade fair area in Spain and one of the biggest in Europe.
With 17 private sector partners, the Director of Exhibition, Hamad Al Abdan, at QTA said, “EIBTM will be a highly important event for Qatar on several levels. It attracts a large and influential segment of the European MICE sector and Qatar will have the opportunity to provide them with a first-hand knowledge of the destinations and the diverse attractions. We will conduct daily destination presentation to various groups from the industry and also underline QTA’s commitment to attracting credible MICE events. We will provide a showcase for the newly developed state-of-the-art facilities at QNCC and further introduce the exceptional addition of the Hamad International Airport.”
He noted that MICE business – covering meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions – is widely recognised as one of the fastest developing and most lucrative sectors of the international travel industry and is one of the key targets for Qatar.
EIBTM will ensure that Qatar as a whole becomes more widely known to the global meetings industry. QTA and the delegation will highlight the destination’s growing status as a premium destination for MICE groups and business travellers with a strong emphasis on cultural tourism.
The exhibition is a forum bringing together MICE suppliers and buyers. A key feature of the event will be its Hosted Buyer programme. This involves inviting leading international buyers and is designed to ensure high quality appointments for exhibitors, as well as providing outstanding business-to-business, networking and professional education opportunities.
Seventeen hotels, destination management companies and other industry suppliers will be exhibiting on the QTA’s stand at the event, including Katara – The Cultural Village, Qatar MICE Development Institute, QNCC, Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways (Q-MICE), Crown Plaza Business Park, InterContinental Doha The City, Doha Marriot, Marriott Marquis Hotel, The Torch, La Cigale Hotel, The Ritz Carlton, Gulf Adventures Tourism, Regency Holidays, Qatar International Adventures, Arabian Adventure and Travel Designer.
