Qatar’s Mohammed Al Housani celebrates after winning the Stars of Science contest. The winner of the sixth season of Qatar Foundation’s ‘edutainment reality’ TV programme won the first prize of $300,000 for devising a solar energy system.

 

DOHA: Qatar’s Mohammed Al Housani has won the Stars of Science contest for a solar energy device, carrying home $300,000 after a thrilling television finale on Saturday.
The sixth season of Qatar Foundation’s ‘edutainment reality’ TV program on MBC4 saw Sultan AlSubhi of Oman walk away with the second prize  of $150,000. He developed a robot — Wudu1 — for cleaning the area used for performing ablutions.
Rania Bou Jaoudeh of Lebanon won the third prize of $100,000 for her Automatic Zucchini Corer invention Corizta. Al Housani earned a total score of 49.6 percent from public voting and a jury deliberation for his Efficient Solar Energy System, named Taqatech. Thieab Al Dossary, inventor of Feelix, the Tactile Communication Bracelet, bagged the fourth prize with a combined score of 7.6 percent.
Thanking QF, the organisers, Al Housani said: “Stars of Science was an incredible experience made unforgettable by my fellow candidates as well as the programme’s mentors, judges and viewers.
