
DOHA: As part of the ongoing Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Qatar, the Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and SME Development (Bedaya Center), yesterday inaugurated GEW Bazaar at Qatar University to support local SMEs and startups, according to a statement.
Held across 160 countries, the GEW is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.
The Bedaya Center is a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, and seeks to offer career development as well as entrepreneurship services for the youth of Qatar.
During the GEW in Qatar, a number of activities and events supporting the SME sector development is slated to take place in different venues across Doha. Grand Hayatt Doha Hotel, Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC), and Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) will host a variety of panel discussions and workshops. Apart from Qatar University, a number of educational institutions like Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and College of North Atlantic Qatar, will host some of the proceedings of the GEW.
Dr Hassan Al Derham, Director at Qatar University, said: “Through Qatar University’s Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE), we have been preparing students to take initiative, develop their business ideas, business plans, and support their innovative efforts and mitigate their challenges to become entrepreneurs.”
Reem Al Suwaidi (pictured), General Manager of Bedaya Center, added: “As the co-organiser of GEW Bazaar, we strive to raise awareness of the value of the startup community. We will highlight several initiatives that aim to make it easier for individuals to start new businesses. Also, we are committed to developing entrepreneurs in Qatar and help facilitate this by getting various players from the ecosystem involved.”
