Doha: Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained Ezzat Nafs (QA) cornered glory to cap the Doha Cup Day in the 11th Race Meeting of Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC) on dirt at the Al Rayyan Racecourse yesterday.

The feature race on eight-races card, the Doha Cup, a 1700m Conditions for 3YO+ Local Purebred Arabians saw jockey Alberto Sanna give Ezzat Nafs a great ride to win by half a length.

QREC’s Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented the trophies to the winners.

Earlier, trainer Gassim Ghazali and jockey Marco Casamento were once again in the winners’ enclosure, having teamed up with the Al Hajaj Stud-owned Nakheel (FR) to win a 1900m Handicap (85-105) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians by half a length.

Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri-owned and trained Millions got back to winning ways quickly as he took a 1200m Handicap for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds by 1¼ lengths. In the final stages, the 4YO responded generously to the urgings of his jockey Ronan Thomas, who completed a double on the day.

Hamad Ateeq Mohammed Al Marri-owned Suheal Qatar made his seasonal debut a success in a 1700m Handicap (70-90) for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds. 

The Abdulaziz Hamad Al Marri-trained 4YO found extra to see off his rivals by 2½ lengths under jockey Rashid Ali Al Saaq.

After two placed finishes this season, the Al Wakra-owned and Zuhair Mohsen-trained Superior Moment (IRE) was a comfortable 2-length winner of a 1700m Handicap (65-85) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds under jockey Ronan Thomas.

Al Jasra Stud-owned My Kinda Day marked his 1st start this season with an impressive effort as the Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained 5YO stretched 4½ lengths clear of the field at the line under jockey Abdulla Rashid Al Hajri to win a 1200m Handicap (0-70) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds.
