Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs organised a ceremony to honour a number of Qatari companies committed to fulfilling their zakat obligations this year, recognising their role in promoting social solidarity and strengthening values of corporate social responsibility.

Opening the event, MalAllah Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, welcomed business leaders and representatives of participating companies. He expressed his appreciation for their presence and partnership in an initiative that reflects the spirit of cooperation and social cohesion.

In his address, Al Jaber highlighted that zakat is a fundamental pillar in building society and in purifying both wealth and soul. He stressed that companies’ commitment to paying zakat through the Zakat Affairs Department ensures that funds reach eligible beneficiaries in accordance with approved Islamic regulations. He reiterated that zakat is an essential component of the financial and economic system in Islam, representing the first institution of social security in the Islamic tradition.

Al Jaber noted that the department places great importance on facilitating zakat payment for individuals and companies through specialised services—foremost among them the corporate zakat calculation service for both individual establishments and shareholding companies.

This service helps taxpayers determine their exact zakat obligations in line with Sharia guidelines. In 2025 alone, the department calculated the financial statements of more than 150 individual and shareholding companies, determining their zakat bases and due amounts. The results were delivered to companies through official letters issued by the department’s corporate field-visits team.

The ceremony was attended by business owners and representatives of leading zakat-paying companies, who expressed gratitude to the Zakat Affairs Department for its continuous efforts and its vital role in serving the community. They affirmed that the department’s work strengthens the culture of solidarity and contributes to sustainable social development. Al Jaber praised the awareness and commitment of the private sector in fulfilling its religious and social responsibilities.

The department stressed that this recognition aims to encourage more companies and individuals to fulfil their zakat obligations, in line with the Quranic verse: “If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you.”
