Doha: The Brookings Doha Centre (BDC) will host a special public policy discussion with Palestinian thought leaders on ‘The Future of the Palestinian National Project’.
The discussion at 6pm at BDC in West Bay Doha on Wednesday will assess national efforts to end the Israeli occupation and achieve political reconciliation between opposing factions, BDC said yesterday.
Palestinian National Initiative Secretary-General Mustafa Barghouthi, Saban Centre for Middle East Policy at Brookings Fellow Khaled Elgindy, Fatah’s Revolutionary Council Deputy Secretary General Sabri Saidam and House of Wisdom Secretary General Ahmed Yousef are the panellists for the discussion to be moderated by BDC Director Salman Shaikh.
Key national challenges will be addressed against the backdrop of regional and international developments, such as the Arab Awakening, recent Israeli elections, and inauguration of US President Barack Obama’s second term. The past year has seen Hamas move away from Damascus, while recent events, including the November clashes between Israel and Gaza, have led to a collective effort to end the organisation’s political isolation, BDC said.
The policy discussion will look at local dynamics in light of a shifting pattern of regional support and issues faced by the Palestinian Authority in building national consensus and driving the national project forward, BDC added. QNA
