Doha: The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced two Asians to three years in jail for forging ATM cards and stealing money from a bank. They will be deported to their countries when their jail term ends.

Their Asian accomplice was jailed for five years for providing necessary information to help in the heist.  He was ordered by the court to pay QR7,995 to the bank. He will also be deported after serving his sentence. The forged cards were reportedly used for purchasing television sets worth about QR7,995.

The bank approached the Criminal Investigation Department after discovering irregularities in transactions.

CCTV footage at the bank’s ATM booths helped identify the culprits, who used two counterfeit cards to make six transactions, of which three were successful.
