DOHA: The “entrepreneurship in economic development forum” to be held at Qatar University on February 24 and 25 will bring together young, prospective business owners and established business leaders to encourage and support the spirit of entrepreneurship in Qatar and the Gulf.
The event is being organised by QU’s College of Business and Economics and Interactive Business Network (IBN).
Qatar Petroleum (QP) will be the official energy partner and sponsor of the forum to be held under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada.
The Minister, also Chairman and Managing Director of QP, will deliver the keynote address to open the forum.
The event will be a platform for experts from business and academia from across the GCC and the rest of the world to discuss plans and strategies for supporting entrepreneurship, which is expected to grow by 40 percent in the coming year and to create 2,000 jobs in Qatar.
The college Dean. Dr Nitham Hindi, said the forum will feature international experts in business, education, finance and leaders from various sectors in Qatar.
Guest speakers from around the world will present an insight into the world of business ownership, management, and related matters. The conference is themed “Fostering the new generation of entrepreneurs in Qatar and the Gulf”.
Dr Hindi said: “The forum is the first such event in Qatar in which students, faculty, business owners, government policy-makers and advisers and others will have the opportunity to dialogue and share ideas and advice. Presenters at the forum bring experience and a wealth of knowledge which will be of considerable benefit to our students and faculty members”.
He referred to the college’s continued commitment to promoting an entrepreneurial culture as reflected in the establishment of an Entrepreneurship Centre of excellence, a minor in entrepreneurship, and an entrepreneurship concentration within its MBA programme.
“Our aim is to establish a platform to support entrepreneurship, and orient all efforts to eliminate all barriers to students’ creativity, funding opportunities, and implementation,” Dr Hindi said.
