DOHA: Students from over 100 schools across Qatar, including Independent, private and Arab community schools, yesterday began competing in the Electronic Scientific Competition, which continues throughout the week and will see the top six schools emerge as winners.
The competition aims to prepare them for the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which will be applied electronically in Qatar for the first time in 2015.
PISA evaluates the performance of students in maths, science and reading and ranks them among members of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as other countries that participate in the assessment.
According to Dr Hamda Al Sulaiti, Director of the Evaluation Institute at the Supreme Education Council, the competition “encourages students to invest their best in the tests and raise standards of their schools to meet international standards needed to excel in global assessments.
“All winning schools will be honoured at a ceremony, and the institute will utilise results to continue shaping the Supreme Education Council’s strategy to prepare students for international standardised assessments.”
