Rio de Janeiro--At least eight people died and five others were injured Wednesday in a Rio suburb when a bus hit an electric pylon which fell on the vehicle, causing a fire, firefighters said.
Several of the victims were burned beyond recognition in the incident at Sao Goncalo.
Globo's G1 web portal quoted witnesses as saying the vehicle skidded in muddy conditions following heavy rain Tuesday.
