DOHA: As part of Discover America — USA Week Qatar, the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham Qatar) hosted Rodney Slater, former US Secretary of Transportation, at the organisation’s Distinguished Speaker Series yesterday. The event was attended by approximately 40 business leaders, including AmCham Qatar members.
Slater, who was Secretary of Transportation during President Clinton’s administration, spoke on US infrastructure and transportation investment opportunities — a key topic in Qatar, as the country continues to undergo significant infrastructure developments. He highlighted the importance of high-quality transportation routes both locally and regionally, saying improved transportation routes will significantly increase trade with the business community no longer relying on one means of transportation.
Slater, also a Partner at Squire Patton Boggs, said: “Qatar is undergoing some tremendously exciting and ambitious infrastructural developments which are only going to improve all aspects of transportation in the country. With an increasing number of immigrants arriving in Qatar on a daily basis, the pressure on transport infrastructures grow. With the completion of the new Hamad International Airport (HIA), the build of the rail network is essential in order to reduce the number of cars on the roads, which again will have a big impact on traffic safety.”
Robert A Hager, Chairman, AmCham Qatar said: “As Qatar continues its monumental development projects, we are very privileged to be receiving this invaluable insight from Slater..”
