PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least two people were killed and more than 20 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up after militants stormed a court complex on Monday in northwest Pakistan, officials said.

Several gunmen and the suicide bomber attacked the crowded complex in the city of Peshawar, said the information minister for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Mian Iftikhar Hussain.

"Two people have been killed and 23 injured," he told reporters, adding that firing was continuing.

"Attackers have taken some people hostage, an exchange of fire is going on, police have launched an operation to free the hostages," the minister said.

Senior police official Faisal Murad confirmed the attack.

"One of the bombers blew himself up and one other threw a grenade," Murad told AFP. "The hostages may include some judges and lawyers." (AFP)
