HIA holds blood donation campaign

Doha: As part of its constant support for the community, Hamad International Airport (HIA) organised a blood donation campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
A fully equipped mobile blood donation unit provided by HMC was deployed to HIA, along with a team of medical specialists. The campaign began at 8am and continued throughout the day, witnessing a huge turnout of HIA and ministry staff. 
Badr Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer, HIA, said: “The campaign is HIA’s way of showing support for the medical community and society.
“It is an opportunity for HIA staff to participate in community service. Efforts like this are in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to contribute to social development and ensure a healthy society for the future of the country.”
Abdulaziz Al Mass, Vice- President, Commercial, HIA, said: “We are happy to be part of this event, which gives us an opportunity to give back to the community and help save the lives of many who have emergency blood requirements and suffer from blood disorders. Blood donation takes a few minutes but has a lasting impact on society as a whole.”
Sadiqa Ismail, Medical Manager, Blood Donor Centre, HMC, said: “Every drop of blood is an important contribution to saving one’s health in emergency and we are grateful to our staff and every donor for volunteering to help us save lives.”
Brigadier Essa Arar Al Rumaihi, Director, Airport Security Management, said the main objective of the ministry to use this event as a platform is to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation which helps increase blood reserves and saves lives. 
Colonel Mohamed Rashid Al Mazrouei, Director, Airport Immigration Department, said he was very pleased with the participation of HIA and its staff, which shows its commitment towards social responsibility. Donors were screened to ensure they met HMC standards of fitness to donate blood.
