ISF convention kicks off in Doha today

DOHA: The Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), H E Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, will inaugurate the convention of International School Sport Federation (ISF) at the Doha Marriott Hotel here today.
ISF President Laurent Petrynka will attend the opening and the convention will go on till Friday. Altogether 83 officials representing 51 nations will take part in the event.
Abdulrahman Al Moftah, Executive Director of the Qatar School Sport Association (QSA) and Member of the ISF Executive Committee, said numerous workshops and sessions have been planned for the convention on themes relating to sport development in schools across the world.
“The ISF Convention will focus on a number of issues, including marketing and media as the ISF aims at develop a new vision for the future” Al Moftah said.
He also confirmed that the ISF officials would attend the final competitions of the Schools Olympic Program to be held at Aspire Academy of Sport Excellence on Friday.
Al Moftah also announced that Qatar will bid to host the ISF World Football Championship in 2017 or 2019. The Czech Republic is keen on hosting the 2017 edition, so Qatar will mainly focus on getting the 2019 edition, he added.
Another reason for choosing 2019 is that the FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar just three years later, in 2022, so the tournament will help prepare the country for the big event, Al Moftah said.
The Qatari delegation at the convention will be chaired by QSA Secretary General Ali Al Hitmi and will include the QSA Executive Director Abdulrahman Al Muftah and QSA Assistant Secretary General Nasser Al Malki. THE PENINSULA

Lisbon hosts pioneering  ICSS summit


Lisbon: International sports policy leaders gathered in Lisbon yesterday to engage in high-level, discussions at the Inter Regional Sports Policy Summit hosted by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS).
The Inter Regional Sports Policy Summit is a pioneering initiative to bring together key decision-makers from major linguistic blocks, sports ministers and leading international institutions to develop solutions to challenges facing the integrity, good governance and sound development of sports.
Emidio Guerreiro, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Sport and Youth and Vice President of the Conference of Ministers of Sport of the CPLP, said: “The realisation of the Inter Regional Sports Policy Summit, in Lisbon, is an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen international cooperation in sports and public policies, particularly in the area of integrity, finance, good governance and the protection of minors.”
“Moreover, it constitutes an important recognition of the leading role that Portugal has had in these matters at national level, through the implementation of the National Plan on Ethics in Sport (PNED), and the international level.” THE PENINSULA
