Doha: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will patronise the official opening of the new Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) building on Friday and the new QFIS mosque at Education City, where guests will perform midday prayer.
This was announced by Dr Aisha Al Mannai, Dean, QFIS, at a press conference at the QFIS premises yesterday. Dr Al Mannai said the faculty began in 2007 as an ambitious idea of Sheikha Moza, who wanted to establish a centre for Islamic studies that offers a moderate and ambitious image of Islam.
QFIS started offering an exclusive range of high-value programmes in graduate studies.
There is an ongoing assessment of the programmes to develop and update them in line with the requirements of the era while maintaining values where the college began programmes in contemporary Fiqh and Public Policy in Islam. The new building will also accommodate the Education City campus mosque. QFIS, a college of Hamad Bin Khalifa University which is a member of QF, supports QF’s mission to foster a progressive society.
