People keep exploiting Facebook in ways that could sway elections and even undermine democracy.
News reports that Facebook let the Trump-affiliated data mining firm Cambridge Analytica abscond with data from tens of millions of users mark the third time in roughly a year the company may have been outfoxed by crafty outsiders.
First it was fake news providers. Then it was Russian agents. Now it's a company that helped Donald Trump win the White House, and which aims to help other campaigns identify and target individual voters with personalized political messages.
A whistleblower who worked at Cambridge Analytica told The Guardian in a report Saturday that the firm was a "full service propaganda machine" that sucked up profile data from upward of 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.
