JAKARTA: At least one person died and scores of others are feared missing when a motor boat capsized Thursday in a river in Indonesia's East Kalimantan province, while crossing in central Indonesia.
Indonesian rescuers are battling strong currents and anrgy water searching for the workers feared dead.
Seventeen people were rescued after the incident on the Mahakam River on Wednesday evening, local disaster relief official said.
The boat was carrying timber company workers near Samarinda, the provincial capital.
Boat accidents are common in Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago consisting of some 17,000 islands. Vessels are often overcrowded and in poor condition. (QNA)
