The 2017 Qatar Cup is set to kick-off on Thursday evening with Al Sadd taking on rivals Al Rayyan in the first semi-final, followed on Friday evening when reigning Qatar Stars League (QSL) Champions Lekhwiya will face off against El Jaish in the second semi-final.
In the first semi-final, Al Rayyan which finished third in the league will be looking for revenge against Al Sadd.
Michael Laudrup side lost both the matches of this years QSL to Al Sadd.
Ahead of the tournament, the Qatar Cup trophy is embarking on a promotional tour across the state of Qatar to build excitement for the end of season tournament.
The first stop of the promotional tour was Al Bidda tower, the home of Qatari football. A host of visitors took photos with the trophy along with an opportunity to get up and close with the Qatar Cup.
The tour is also set to take in a number of different locations across Qatar including local schools, malls, key sponsors and tourist attractions. Players from the Qatar Cup teams will also be present at selected locations on the tour, which has an overall aim of celebrating the tournament whilst also encouraging fans to come along to the two semi-finals and showpiece final which is set to take place on April 29 at Al Sadd Stadium.
Speaking at the launch of the trophy tour, Nasser Al Kuwari Community relations officer at the QSL said; “The promotional tour will offer the perfect opportunity for the general public to find out more about the Qatar Cup and the competition.”
