Doha: Aspire Academy’s 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 football teams had an excellent performance in international tournaments in both Portugal and Netherlands, during their summer period training camps recently.
In the Iber Cup 2013 football tournament in Portugal, the academy’s 2000 team performed well as they reached the quarter- final where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Portugal’s professional team of Belenense.
The team played in Group B where they drew with Romanian team of Sportulstudentesc 0-0.
They beat Portugal’s Juvcastanheira 5-0, and drew with GS Loures from the same country 0-0.
In the last-16 stage, Aspire team beat Gibraltar national team 3-1.
In the Netherlands, the academy teams, 2001, 2002 and 2003, had even a much better performance, where they played against some professional teams such as the Netherland’s team Heerenveen FC.
Aspire’s 2002 A team went on to win the tournament after a large victory in the final 6-1 against GVVV FC.
While Aspire’s 2002 B lost on penalties 1-3 (1-1 full-time) to finish in the fourth place in the tournament.
Aspire’s 2001 group were split into two teams, the Blues and the Maroons. The Blues won the Wining Mood Ricoh tournament U-13 in the 9 on 9 line, beating GVAV 1-0 in the tournament final.
Aspire’s 2001 Blue team won the title after defeating SDC Putten 3-0, while the Maroon team came third.
The 2003 team came second in the first competition and finished first in the other tournament.
