Nine militants killed, three held

Kabul: Nine Taliban militants were killed and three detained in joint operations by Afghan security forces and the International Security Assistance Force over the past 24 hours in different regions of Afghanistan. According to a ministry of interior statement on Wednesday, operations took place in Ghazni, Kandahar, Baghlan and Nangarhar. Security forces confiscated large quantities of heavy and light weapons and homemade explosives. No losses in the ranks of the security forces were reported in the statement.

Man shot dead in Baluchistan

Islamabad: One man was killed and three were injured in two separate shooting incidents by unknown assailants in the southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan. Police said the two incidents took place in the district of Panjgur, adding that the three injured were taken to a civil hospital in the district for medical treatment.

Pakistan drills 62 wells in 2012

KARACHI: Exploration and production drilling activities in the financial year 2012-13 were the highest in Pakistan. Sixty-two wells were drilled, up 82 per cent on yearly basis, analysts said yesterday. The target of 105 wells for the fiscal year 2013-14 is modest and leaves room for improvement, said Fawad Khan, an analyst at Foundation Securities.
