Some people call it hypocrisy, others flattery, courtesy or polishing, or they call it personal interest and use the most outrageous words. They call them the worst names and even seek to take revenge on them in social media and traditional media.
All this happens for nothing but their positive spirit, positive thinking, giving priority to the nation’s interests, talking about its achievements, seeing things with the right perspective and looking at the negative with an insightful eye that seeks to redress mistakes in a wise manner.
These people know full well that those who follow them, both inside and outside the country, are easily influenced by what they write and say. This is why they throw light on the nation’s achievements and care about putting our house in order.
Positive thinking is an art that only those who have a vision for their society, and those who know that it will never take a step forward if negativity or pessimism reign supreme, have.
Having a positive spirit, even while criticising, is a quality only those with a positive culture have. It is an art only those who know we will never have a promising future without instilling this spirit in our youth, have.
True, there are negative things in every society. But to keep criticising without mentioning anything positive is seeing only the empty half of the glass.
A negative person continues criticising regardless of whether the society around him has changed. Such a person wears dark glasses that make him see everything in its ugliest form. He always looks for something negative amongst a hundred positive things. When he spots this negativity, he seeks to exaggerate it, ignoring the many positive things.
Dear gentlemen, Qatar, in the midst of all the development it is undergoing, is badly in need of a positive media, one that suggests solutions when it refers to problems. It needs media that does not throw the whole society into water and then asks it not to get wet.
We have a society that always criticises, one that sees only the negatives and the problems, and totally overlooks the achievements of Qatari youth in all fields as well as the support the state offers them.
Critical people always have many supporters and followers; people who are not used to positive thinking. They regard everybody who has a different point of view as a hypocrite and sycophant.
Good words, optimism and positive attitudes are qualities our great religion calls for. Allah says: “A good word is like a good tree, whose roots are firm, and its branches are in heaven”.
There was not a bigger despot than the Pharaoh. Even then, Allah ordered the prophets Moses and Harun to use gentle words in addressing him: “Then speak to him a gentle word that he may be mindful or perhaps he may fear”.
We Qataris should be a living example of positive attitudes. We should work hard to become an ideal, positive society; one that does not care about what people of negative thinking say.
Finally, our country needs a positive media that throws light on our development projects. Qatar needs youth who think positive and get rid of negativity by looking forward to a bright future for their country under its young leaders who work had to encourage positive criticism and find solutions to problems. Let us all unite under the slogan, “Positive Qataris”.
