HAVANA: Representatives of victims of the conflict in Colombia will take part in peace talks between the government and the FARC guerrilla group next month, the two sides announced yesterday.
The victims’ “voice will be a fundamental element of the discussions,” a joint statement said after an agreement between negotiators as part of talks to end the five decade-old conflict.
The next round of negotiations dealing with compensation for victims of the conflict is scheduled to begin August 12 in Havana.
Starting August 16, the government and rebel delegates will see the “direct participation” of various representatives of victims groups chosen with an eye to “balance and pluralism.” AFP
