Cairo: The Arab Parliament has called for the swift formation of a new Lebanese government to end the political vacuum in the country, saying the continuation of the current political stalemate will have dire consequences for the work of the Lebanese state institutions and the future of the situation in Lebanon.

In a statement today, the Arab Parliament called on all political parties in Lebanon to assume their national responsibility, uphold the higher interest of the Lebanese people, and immediately start serious and urgent talks in order to form a new government, stressing that this is an urgent priority that can no longer tolerate any delay in order to save the country from a difficult situation worse than the current one.

It stressed the need for the new government to be a government of technocrats with the ability and competence to implement the required economic reforms, address current challenges, maintain the capabilities of the Lebanese people, and preserve the unity of their national fabric.

The Arab Parliament said that the success of the Lebanese in forming the new government represents an important step to motivate the international community to support the Lebanese people and provide the necessary economic assistance to get out of the current crisis situation.
